If you bought a Galaxy S24, chances are one of the reasons was Samsung’s promise of seven years of Android OS upgrades. That commitment means your phone is only getting started, even though it has already been replaced by the Galaxy S25 and, more recently, the Galaxy S26.
Naturally, the next question on many owners’ minds is: When will the Galaxy S24 receive One UI 9 based on Android 17?
Samsung hasn’t shared an official roadmap yet, but the company has established a release pattern that’s very consistent. By looking at how it handled the Galaxy S23 during last year’s One UI 8 rollout, we can make a reasonable prediction of what’s likely to happen next.
The Galaxy S24 is still early in its software journey
When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S24 series, it made headlines by extending software support to an industry-leading seven years of Android OS upgrades and security updates. The phones launched running Android 14, meaning One UI 9 based on Android 17 will be their third major platform upgrade. Put another way, the Galaxy S24 still has four more Android versions to look forward to after this one.

That long support window is one of the biggest reasons the Galaxy S24 series remains an excellent buy today, even two generations after its debut.

Last year’s Galaxy S23 One UI 8 rollout offers the biggest clue
Samsung may not publish a detailed release calendar months in advance, but its flagship rollout strategy has become fairly predictable. Think back to last year, for instance.
At the time, the Galaxy S23 occupied the same position in Samsung’s lineup that the Galaxy S24 does today. It was no longer the newest flagship, having been succeeded by the Galaxy S24 and later overshadowed by newer Galaxy S25. When Samsung began expanding the One UI 8 beta beyond its latest devices, the Galaxy S23 was next in line.
The public beta reached the Galaxy S23 family in early September 2025, giving users an early look at Android 16 before the software was finalized. About a month later, Samsung started releasing the stable build after ironing out the most significant issues reported during testing.
That sequence is likely to repeat itself this year.
When will the Galaxy S24 One UI 9 beta begin?
With the Galaxy S26 currently leading Samsung’s One UI 9 beta program, the company is expected to gradually widen testing to older flagship devices over the coming weeks. Based on Samsung’s previous rollout schedule, we believe the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra could enter the One UI 9 public beta between late August and early September, perhaps a week or so after the Galaxy S25.
This would give Samsung enough time to gather feedback, fix bugs and optimize performance before pushing the final version to millions of users worldwide.
It’s important to point out that this prediction doesn’t include the Galaxy S24 FE. Samsung has historically treated its Fan Edition devices differently, often rolling out major updates on a separate timeline.
Our prediction for the Galaxy S24 stable One UI 9 release
Assuming the beta program lasts around three to four weeks (as it did for the Galaxy S23 last year), the stable rollout for the Galaxy S24 family could begin towards the end of September or in early October. That estimate isn’t based on guesswork alone. It reflects Samsung’s established release cadence for previous Galaxy S flagships, where each generation follows the one before it with only slight adjustments to the timeline.
Of course, software releases are rarely identical from year to year. If Samsung uncovers major bugs during beta testing, the rollout could be delayed while engineers work on fixes. Regional approvals and carrier certification can also affect when the update reaches individual devices.

One UI 9 development is already underway
Although Samsung hasn’t opened the beta to the Galaxy S24 just yet, development of One UI 9 is progressing behind the scenes. The company is already testing Android 17 internally across several Galaxy devices including the S24, and more models are expected to join both the internal and public testing programs as development continues.
We’re keeping a close eye on every stage of the rollout in our dedicated Samsung One UI 9 update tracker, where we document new internal builds, beta releases and stable updates as they happen. If you’re waiting for Android 17 on your Galaxy device, it’s worth bookmarking that page. We’ll continue updating it whenever Samsung expands the rollout to another eligible phone.
Nothing is official until Samsung announces it, but history provides a useful guide. If the company follows the same roadmap it used for the Galaxy S23 last year, here’s what Galaxy S24 owners can reasonably expect:
- Late August to early September: One UI 9 beta opens for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra.
- Late September to early October: Stable One UI 9 rollout begins.
- Following weeks: More regions and carrier models gradually receive the update.
The Galaxy S24 still has years of software support ahead of it, and One UI 9 is only the third chapter in a seven-year update journey. Based on Samsung’s track record, Android 17 shouldn’t be too far away.
