Samsung's new USD 799.99 Galaxy Book6 has a 15 TOPS NPU, while the Galaxy Book6 launched at CES has 49

Samsung has launched a 14-inch Galaxy Book 6 costing USD 799.99. In the release, the company has described the laptop as a more accessible device for everyday computing. It will available via samsung.com and Amazon from October 5th. It will also be available in select markets.

Back in January, Samsung also announced a 14-inch Galaxy Book 6 at CES. The two Galaxy Book 6 laptops are different machines carrying one name.

TOPS is trillions of operations per second, for AI work. The September unit cuts that down significantly.

According to Microsoft, for a laptop to be certified for Copilot+ PC, the NPU must reach at least 40 TOPS have at least 16GB of RAM and at least 256GB of stoage. The January unit is the one that achieves those requirements.

Samsung is pushing Galaxy AI on the cheaper September machine. You’ll be able to access stuff like AI Select, which reads what is on screen and cuts backgrounds out of images. You’ll access Note Assist, which summarises notes.

For the September model, you also get:

Battery at 61.2Wh, with Samsung claiming up to 25 hours and 45W charging that reaches about 33% in half an hour.
The body is 15.7mm thick.
Ports are two USB-C, one USB-A, HDMI 1.4 and a 3.5mm jack, and
HDMI 1.4 caps an external display at 4K and 30Hz.
Wireless is Wi-Fi 6E,
The webcam is 2MP, and
The keyboard is not backlit.
Colours are Violet Silver, a first for the range, and Gray.

Mincheol Lee, executive vice president and head of the Galaxy Ecosystems Business Team, said Samsung wanted “to make the Galaxy Book experience available for more people”.

The September model costs about KES 103,500 before shipping, duty and VAT. Samsung Kenya never sells their laptop and computing ecosystem, so if you want one, you’ll make do with importation.
