Apple sends out invites for touchscreen MacBook unveil

Apple’s October is running to a second launch. Mark Gurman says the company is now inviting some media to an all-day product launch experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday 28th October 2026. At this event the company will unveil its first touchscreen MacBooks, a new iPad mini and Macs with the M6 chip.

It follows the smart home launch on Tuesday, when Apple unveiled the HomeView display we covered. Apple used the same route for that one: journalists were invited to a 9am session in Tribeca, New York, and pre-orders opened the same day.

Earlier this month Gurman reported that the second event would come around Tuesday 27th October, with an online video presentation and an in-person part for the press.

The reporting describes the touchscreen MacBooks as redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with OLED screens and a lighter body, and possibly a Dynamic Island in place of the notch.

No Mac has had a touchscreen before. The name is unknown, and “MacBook Ultra” is what’s being floated.

The M6 is Apple’s first 2-nanometre chip, and it debuted in the Mac mini on 25th August 2026. Gurman’s earlier post names the 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac as the next Macs to get it. The touchscreen MacBook Pros are reported to use the M5 Pro and M5 Max, because no M6 Pro or M6 Max is planned. That would leave the newest chip in the conventional 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac for now.

The iPad mini is reported to also move to an OLED screen, with the front camera moved to the long edge for landscape video calls, plus a redesigned speaker system.

Anyone about to buy a 14-inch MacBook Pro or an iMac has a reason to wait two weeks, since both are reported to be getting the M6 on these dates. If the 13th October pattern holds, Apple will announce the products to everyone on the day it shows them to the press.
