How to pay for Spotify Premium in Kenya for up to a year at once

Here is the secret to buying your Spotify Premium subscription in bulk and keeping a few extra shillings in your pocket.

I have a confession to make. I am supposed to be the tech guy. Whether it’s among my family, my friends, or even those of you who religiously follow my updates here, I am the one people turn to for digital hacks. But somehow, a massive Spotify trick completely flew under my radar until now.

Tell me how and why I am just finding out that you can pay for Spotify Premium in Kenya for multiple months at a go? I genuinely don’t know when this became a feature, or if it has been hiding in plain sight ever since Spotify launched in Kenya. Honestly, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I finally found it, and naturally, I am sharing it with you.

If you want to save a few more shillings on your music streaming (think of it like the discount you get buying wholesale rather than retail) here is exactly how you can bulk-buy your Spotify Premium subscription.

The catch? Step away from the Spotify app

If you have been frantically searching your Spotify app trying to find this option, you can stop now. You won’t find it there.

The app restricts you to the standard, rolling monthly payments. To unlock the multi-month payment tiers, you need to bypass the app entirely and head over to the website. Simply open your web browser, navigate to the Spotify Kenya Premium Plans page, and log into your account.

Look for the one-time payment option

Once you are on the desktop site, look at the premium plans available. When you select the plan you want, either Individual or Duo, Spotify will present you with an option called a one-time payment. Clicking this drops down a menu allowing you to pay upfront for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 full year.

Buying in bulk actually knocks a decent chunk off the standard monthly pricing. If you opt to pay for a full year upfront for the Individual plan, it will cost you KES 4,190. When you break that down, it comes to about KES 349.17 per month. Compared to paying the standard monthly rate of KES 419 per month all year, you end up saving KES 838. You get 2 months for free.

  • 1 year: KES 4,190 (Best value)
  • 6 months: KES 2,499
  • 3 months: KES 1,259

If you share your music with a partner or a friend, the Premium Duo plan also offers solid multi-month tiers. The standard monthly rate is KES 559, but you can stretch it out:

  • 1 year: KES 6,599
  • 6 months: KES 3,299
  • 3 months: KES 1,649

Family and Student plans left out

There is a slight catch to this hack. Notably, the one-time bulk payment feature is exclusively available for the Individual and Duo plans. For whatever reason, Spotify excluded the Student and Family plans from this setup. If you are on either of those two, you are still locked into the standard month-to-month billing cycle.

Ultimately, if you are on an Individual or Duo plan and you have the cash upfront, switching to a one-time, multi-month payment just makes sense. You bypass the risk of a failed renewal right when your favourite podcast drops, and save some money in the process.

Have you been using this feature, or are you just as surprised as I am? Let me know in the comments!
