The OnePlus 16 will have a 9,000mAh battery and a 200-megapixel main camera. Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station gave the battery figure on 7 September and said it is the final production capacity, six days after listing the finished camera hardware on 1 September.
OnePlus is a Chinese phone brand owned by OPPO. The OnePlus 16 is its next flagship and follows the OnePlus 15, which went on sale in China in October 2025. A certification filing in August listed the phone as model PYB110, and Digital Chat Station has been saying since July that it launches in October.
The battery is the bigger change. The OnePlus 15 has 7,300mAh, so 9,000mAh is 1,700mAh more in a phone of about the same size. The recent wave of huge batteries is thanks to silicon-carbon cells. The chemistry swaps some of the graphite in the anode for silicon, which holds more energy in the same volume, and it has taken over Android flagships this year. This is not the biggest battery in a phone; Honor’s X80 Pro Max has 11,000mAh. It is the biggest in this wave of flagships.
Digital Chat Station also says the phone uses an OPPO power chip that supports low-voltage discharge, so the rated capacity is the capacity you actually get. Phones normally stop drawing from a cell before it is empty, and many throttle performance below 10%. The claim is that the OnePlus 16 does neither.
On cameras, leaks suggest:
- a 200MP main sensor at 1/1.4 inches
- a 50MP Sony periscope telephoto at 1/1.95 inches with 3x optical zoom
- a 50MP ultrawide
- a 50MP selfie camera with autofocus
The OnePlus 15 has a 50MP main at 1/1.56 inches and a 50MP telephoto at 1/2.75 inches. Both rear sensors get physically larger, which does more for image quality than the megapixel jump does; a 200MP sensor spends most of its life binning pixels down to 12.5MP anyway. Leaks in January claimed two 200MP sensors, main and telephoto.
The rest of the leaked spec sheet of the OnePlus 16:
- a 6.78-inch flat 1.5K BOE panel at 165Hz that goes to 185Hz in games,
- the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro,
- LPDDR6 memory,
- UFS 4.1 storage, and
- Android 17 with ColorOS 17, the OPPO software that replaced OxygenOS.
Prices posted on 3 August by the X account @OnePlusClub claim the device starts at 4,999 yuan, about KES 96,500, for 8GB and 256GB, and reach 7,499 yuan, about KES 145,000, for a limited 16GB and 1TB edition. The OnePlus 15 started at 12GB of RAM, so an 8GB base model is a step backwards.
OnePlus said in July that it will stop launching new products in Europe and North America. India has not been settled, and tipsters Yogesh Brar and @OnePlusClub have both said the 16 could be China-only. Kenyan buyers already get OnePlus phones through importers rather than a local OnePlus channel.
Qualcomm will be announcing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 at its summit in Maui on 22 September.
