Huawei has today officially launched three new devices for the Kenyan market:
- Huawei Y9s
- Huawei Band 4
- Huawei Band 4e
Before you ask, yes Google Services are supported, and you’ll get all the default Google Apps pre-installed.
The Y9s – which is stylised as such with no year – is a refresh of the Huawei Y9 launched late last year. It shares the similar specs with the Y9 Prime 2019, and the only differentiating factor between it and the Y9 PRIME 2019 is the extra RAM, the movement of the fingerprint scanner to the side, and the new 48MP camera.
The new Y9s will be retailing at KES. 31,999. The price is much higher than the Huawei P30 Lite NEW Edition that was launched a couple of weeks ago at KES. 28,999. The major difference between the P30 Lite NEW Edtion and the new Y9s is very minimal. Everything is the same except for screen and battery size.

The Huawei Band 4 will be retailing at KES. 4,699 and is the better of the two as it has more features, and tracks more activities. Huawei promises upto 12 days of use with it. Which is quite good. It can also go up to 50 meters under fresh water.
The Band 4e, which is like the budget option, also does a couple of cool stuff. It will be retailing for KES. 3,199. I have it for review, and I’ll be sharing my first impressions of it soon. It comes with a dedicated basketball data tracking feature to enable basketball players track jumps, speed, etc because one can attach it to their shoes using an accessory included in the box.
Huawei Y9s will be available in the market at the end of the month. Pre-orders begin on 22nd November, and end on 28th November. Consumers will get FREE wireless headphones for every pre-order made.
Speaking of the new device, Huawei Mobile Kenya Country President, Steven Li said, “We are delighted to introduce you again a game changer in our Y series, this comes months after the launch of Y9 Prime 2019 that has seen an impressive growth in terms of market share. We are confident that in partnership with our retail stores across the country as well as our partners such as Jumia Kenya and Lipa Later we will sell well before we close for Christmas.”
