TECNO Camon 19 Pro Unboxing and First Impressions

TECNO has launched the Camon 19 Series in the Kenyan market. There are three new devices in the series: the Camon 19, the Camon 19 Pro, and the Camon 19 5G. Two of the phones are immediately available in the Kenyan market, with the 5G variant being being launched later on.

The prices of the new devices are as follows:

• Camon 19 – KES 23,499
• Camon 19 Pro – KES 33,799
• Camon 19 Pro 5G: KES 41,599

Thoughts on Pricing:

This is fair pricing to be honest. I expected a lot more for the TECNO Camon 19 Pro especially. My estimate was at KES 40,000+ given what we’ve seen with previous devices. However, that 34k mark makes it a little more competitive, even if you compare it with similarly priced devices from other companies.

TECNO now really needs to work on the software situation. If they can ensure two things, they can totally change the game for their devices. These two things are: reduce bloatware and work on assured timely updates.

Display:

Both the Camon 19 and the Camon 19 PRO have really good displays as you’ll see in the video above. They both get plenty bright, and have pretty good colour reproduction. I had stated that the Camon 19 PRO has an AMOLED panel, but that was a mistake. They’re both LCD panels. The difference between the PRO and the Normal version is in the refresh rate. The PRO supports 120Hz refresh rate with 360Hz touch-sampling. The Normal only does 60Hz refresh rates – fixed.

Cameras:

The new 64MP sensor on both phones is made in collaboration with Samsung. It’s a RGBW sensor with a white cell which helps improve low-light and night photography. Transsion companies have been doing really good stuff with night photography, and this new sensor promises to give even better shots.

Design:

This is the almost perfect thing about this phone. While some people may argue that they don’t like the design, especially with the huge camera bumps, I will say this: making both the 23k and the 34k phones look similar is really good design. Please note that they’re different on the hand. The PRO really feels premium and worthy of its design at that price point. The Normal model also really feels great for its price point. TECNO will surely sell very many units given people with different budgets will all be getting the same design.
